Vindication

Date added: 19/12/2006 07:19

I have been completely vindicated by the report of ACT Coroner Maria Doogan, handed down on Tuesday, 19 December.

After taking evidence and fighting the ACT bureaucracy for three years, Mrs Doogan has made 73 recommendations and delivered a devastating blow to the credibility of the ACT Government and Chief Minister Jon Stanhope.

Link to the report:

My book was produced in less than six months after meeting closed doors from almost every ACT bureaucrat, with the exception of the head of Forestry, who demonstrated broad experience, and in the last weeks before publishing, the head of the ACT Emergency Services Bureau, Mike Castle.

My book was built of views from firefighters themselves, land and home owners and the Australian Federal Police.

NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner, Phil Koperberg, refused to comment despite numerous approaches and then immediately sought to damn my book the day it was released. What a hypocrite.

I don’t blame Peter Lucas Smith or Mike Castle for the blunders or lack of warnings. These were in part political decisions by an inexperienced and agenda driven Labor Government. But the real cuplrits come from NSW.
