Journalist and author of the definitive book on the
devastating bushfires that threatened Canberra in 2003.
FIRESTORM: TRIAL BY FIRE sheds a glaring spotlight on the underlying flaws and weaknesses of Government and administrative structures in dealing with real life. Firestorm is as much about the self-serving nature of bureaucracies as it is about the nature of the Australian environment and its misunderstood affinity with fire.
The book came as a culmination of 20 years in journalism and a lengthy interest in policing, law enforcement and criminology. Since 1990, Peter Clack has been a familiar byline in The Canberra Times, writing about politics, policing and Canberra affairs. His networks and insights played a formative role in the maturing ACT Legislative Assembly and its multifaceted political personalities. He helped to mirror the political intrigues surrounding the rise of the Australian Federal Police as a true national force to be reckoned with.
But it was on the ground and on the streets that he defined his relationships with police issues and personalities. He brought their failings and achievements to prominence in the pages of The Canberra Times.
Peter is the enemy of bureaucratic incompetence and time and again he exposed their often miserable performances. Peter hopes this website will allow ordinary people to see behind the mistruths and artfulness of the bureaucrats.
